Approximately 60% of India's 26,500 auto dealerships offer two-wheelers, with rural India being their largest market. Local lockdowns in India have resulted in a reduction in sales. 

    According to the union, due to constraints, 80 percent of the stores have been forced to temporarily close. The proprietors of the businesses have sought assistance from the manufacturers of scooters and motorcycles. WhatsApp groups with dealers from many states are humming with SOS messages. 

    A two-wheeler dealer in Uttar Pradesh, around 700 kilometers east of Kolkata, is ready to make a difficult decision. The Hero MotoCorp dealer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to commercial considerations, stated that he has instructed his HR department to devise a strategy to reduce the personnel in order to save money. And, unlike the last time, he can't afford to wait for things to improve because rural demand has plummeted.
